Symmetry Oasis Mural Meetup
At Symmetry Oasis Jungle Retreat in Montellano, Dominican Republic, I joined fellow members of Artist Academy Advanced for a collaborative mural meetup that transformed multiple spaces across the retreat. Set within a 47-acre jungle environment of open-air buildings, nature trails, pools, and wellness spaces, the retreat offered a setting where the murals could feel fully integrated into the guest experience rather than simply added onto it.

Working alongside muralists from across the United States and Canada, we first came together on a large stained-glass-inspired whale mural, then divided into smaller teams to complete additional projects throughout the property. Those included a stained-glass-inspired turtle mural, a butterfly wings selfie mural, a Symmetry Oasis logo mural, and a series of hand-painted wayfinding signs installed around the retreat. The overall body of work helped shape the retreat into a more immersive, art-filled environment for guests moving through its indoor and outdoor spaces.

What made this experience especially meaningful was the collaborative energy behind it. The murals were created through shared labor, shifting team configurations, and a sense of creative exchange among artists who had traveled in from different places to make something together in one setting. For me, the project reflects both the mural itself and the larger experience around it: community, adaptability, and the way art can deepen a place’s identity when it is woven into how people move through it.
